January 3-4, 2011, an upgrade to the eCampus system hosted by Desire2Learn will be performed from version 8.4 to 9.1 enabling increased functionality and improvements. The system will be down during that period but should be online again January 5, 2010. For the most part, users will not notice a major a difference in the way eCampus operates. However, there are a few enhancements and new tools to consider.
- The My Monmouth University Courses listing displays updates below course, such as new Discussion Postings, Dropbox Submissions, etc.
- Navigation bars are now frameless and have been updated to "wrap" when resized.
- A Course Administration widget will be added to Course Home pages giving faster access to commonly used tools such as Course Builder, Groups, and Import/Export Copy Components, and Manage Files.
- Notification Messages - "Saved Successfully" and other status notifications now appear in the lower, right hand corner of the screen.
- The HTML Editor has two update features:
- Insert Stuff - Allows for easier embedding of media, such as YouTube and Flicker videos using urls or pasting embed codes.
- Equation Support - The HTML Editor now accepts equations in MathML and LaTeX format.
- The Classlist shows profile pictures and the last date at time a user has accessed a specific course.
- Discussions allow for email notifications to be sent when new posts are available. Discussion posts will also display the author's profile picture.
- Manage Files has a updated interface, with the ability to upload more than one file at a time.
- Desire2Learn2Go, a mobile version, provides students access to Course News, Events, Content and Grades.
- The new Course Builder tool simplifies creating and organizing course structure and components.
- The new Manage Dates tool helps clear all the dates from a previous a semester.
- Feel free to continue working on your upcoming courses, as current courses will remain “as is” after the upgrade.
- The same steps can be used for creating items in News, Content, Dropbox, Discussions, Quizzes, Grades, Surveys.
- Instructional Support will continue support for eCampus and provide training for the new system.
- Self-Help materials will be made available for all functional changes that will guide you through what you need to accomplish specific tasks.
- Members of Instructional Support are offering daily training the week of 1/10/2011 in the Library Instructional Lab from 10:00am – 12:00pm and 2:00pm – 4:00pm. The first 45 minutes of each session will be an overview of the changes in eCampus. The remainder of the session will be used as a course building workshop where you can bring materials and work on preparing your course. You can self register for sessions on eCampus. Self help materials will also be made available after the upgrade.
